Ice 9
Here it is. The long awaited list. It's going to be much less impressive than everyone has been expecting, I'm sure. And by everyone, I mean Amanda, since I'm sure no one else has been waiting for it.
Drumroll please.....
No, DRUMROLL!
In no particular order, here are some things I'd like to do before I die.
1) Spend the rest of my life with someone I love ~ This one seems to be on track
2) Graduate from UW Computer Science ~ This one seems kind of stupid, but it's on the list. I think I can safely say that up until University started, I was never really challenged by anything academically, save Grade 11 French.
Basically, this is the hardest thing I've ever done.
So yeah, I'm looking forward to the day that I get to proudly say to everyone "Hi! I have a degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo!" And then everyone says "Shut up, we're tired of hearing you say that. You're not special." And then I cry.
3) Write a story / book ~ I'm pretty sure that at least part of me is an art major stuck with the mind of a CS major. Don't get me wrong, I love programming (well...90% of the time. The other 10% of the time, programming and I have swearing matches, monkeys are thrown, etc. etc.), but the idea of sitting down and writing a novel sounds appealing, at least in my head. I know that in reality, I would probably write a novel for a day or two, and then wander off , get distracted by a car, chase the car down the street and all of a sudden look around and realize I don't know where I am anymore. It's like Homeward Bound.
Oh, and part of me (wait for it, this is the shocker(not like that)) would really like to write something meaningful and profound. I love crazy Douglas Adams-esque humour, but I also would want anything I wrote to actually maybe affect one or two people. Possibly. I think if you were looking for an author I'd probably look to as a role model (theoretically of course), I'd point you towards Kurt Vonnegut. He's an ugly son of a bitch, but I like his writing.
4) Just walk for a long time in no particular direction ~ I'm not sure why, but I'm filled with what the poets call "wanderlust". If you don't know what that is, think Jack Kerouac. If you don't know who that is, uh...google it. I won't link it. Do some work. Exercise those fingers! Not too much though...wouldn't want to mess up the keyboard. *cough*
For some reason, the idea of just walking in no direction has appealed to me for as long as I can remember, especially if the walk takes places on a warm summer evening. Now I just need God to string together a bunch of summer evenings in a row, maybe 10. Then I'd be golden.
On a side note, one of the only good memories I have from the dreaded "Summer of Angie" is taking a long walk in the country on a summer evening with nobody but their farm dog, Ben. We walked a looong way before turning around. While out, we met several other dogs who were inquisitive yet friendly, had time for thinking, tired outselves out, and got to watch the sun set.
5) Just drive for a long time in no particular direction ~ See 3, but add some friends and various tourist attractions. Shake well.
6) See the Earth from orbit ~ OK, so this one is the least likely. But hey, by the time I'm old, maybe entering the Earth's orbit would be old news. Maybe EVERYBODY will be doing it by then. The kids will have to poke and prod my old bones up there and I'll be yelling and waving my cane and losing my dentures and pooping my old man diaper. It'll be great. The seeing the Earth thing, not the pooping my diaper thing.
That's it. That's all I got. Actually, there's probably more, but I can't think right now. I'll add to it if I come up with anything though.

if you think i'm an okay replacement for ben, i'd be happy to try that on a beautiful day. i really like walking if the wind isn't slicing my face off, and my shoes aren't getting covered in snow/rain water.
maybe even jed'll calm down enough to join us :)
<3
OK, we'll make sure to pick a day where the wind is decidedly un-knife-like
Count me in for the driving one!!!
