It didn't quite approach Math 239 levels of ridiculousness (at least I could understand what the questions were asking), but it was easily the worst computer science exam I've ever taken. I (and hopefully everyone else) will now spend the weekend diligently praying for a huge curve.

On a funny note, we have a new convert to the church of ds lite of latter day saints. Laura bought a white one yesterday on a whim, which brings the number of new converts this term to two. She also bought Super Princess Peach, which means I can try it without feeling like a huge girl.

Now, it's time to eat some lunch and study for the 360 midterm on Tuesday. It's only an hour and twenty minutes, what could go wrong?

I play Russian roulette everyday, a man's sport,
With a bullet called life

On Spore

Go read this.

He poops to see!

Warn Your Warmth To Turn Away

Wow, over 2 months. That's got to be some sort of horrible record for not updating a blog. Unless you count my other one, which is apparently still floating around the nether regions of the internet.

This term has been going surprisingly quick so far, quicker than any previous ones. Maybe it's because I haven't had to do the interview thing on top of all of my other responsibilities. I'm pretty sure that would have made me 'le crazy', as the French say. CS turns up the heat a notch or two every term, which is more than enough pressure for me. Not enough to make me go nuts or anything, but enough to make me wistfully think about dropping into English every once in a while.

All I can say is that I'm supremely happy I didn't take OS this term. Oh Lord, perish the thought. Sean, you have my sympathy.

It hasn't all been soul crushing Context Free Grammars though. The *entire* world doesn't run in O(nlogn) time. Amanda and I convinced Sean to buy a DS Lite, and we're looking to converting more people to the wacky cult of people with cool handheld electronic games. If we can convince Jarrett and Gee to buy one, we can be "those nerds who are always playing their game boys".

In other news, I'm apparently going to have two unknown roommates next term in TO. I lucked out getting Laura and John last term, as neither of them fit the "traditional mathie" mold. If I get some of the people who hang out in comfy and discuss World of Warcraft 24 hours a day, I'm going to hide in my closet and die.

Shit, I don't have a closet.

Here It's December Every Day

Behold, the DS Lite!

Amanda got me a DS Lite (pictured above, *cough*) and gave it to me this weekend as an early birthday/anniversary amalgamatory gift. While I can't read Japanese, I've figured out the following things from the odd little pictures:

a) I should never stick my DS Lite into the head of a snowman. It will make him visibly angry.
b) Do not hammer the battery until it sprays molten hot battery acid all over your face.
c) Do not pour water on the DS Lite
d) Do not fellate the stylus
e) Do not play the DS Lite while wearing a garbage bag
f) Do not drop the DS Lite on babies
g) Do not use the DS Lite to control people's pacemakers

I just need to think of a present as good as this to give to Amanda. So if anyone wants to take courses with a friendly face or me, then here ya go:

3A) SUMMER
CS 341 - Algorithms
CS 349 - User Interfaces
CS 360 - Theory of Computing
MUSIC 140 - Popular Music & Culture
RS 267 - Film and the Quest for Meaning 2

3B) WINTER
CS 350 - Operating Systems
CS 342 - Control Structures
CS 457 - System Performance Evaluation
ENGL 208A - Forms of Fantasy
MATH 235 - Linear Algebra 2

4A) FALL
SCI 206 - Physics of How Things Work
CS 445 - Software Requirements Specification and Analysis
CS 448 - Introduction to Database Management
CS 486 - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence
GEO 165 - Introduction to Cartography and Remote Sensing
- OR -
FINE 120 - Introduction to Fine Art

4B) WINTER
CS 444 - Compiler Construction
CS 456 - Computer Networks
HIST 111 - History of Western World II

Exeunt. I've left 2 spots open in 4B because you never know how time is going to mess up your plans. As Jarrett can (hopefully) see, we'll be taking Compilers in 4B (since it's either that or uh....next term). Now we just need a third partner and we'll be home free. I don't understand why no one else wants to spend time programming with us!

Okay, that's not strictly true.

In other news, Laura and I haven't been getting along so well. I guess it all started when I started a NGA (No Girls Allowed) club in my closet. Bitter words were exchanges, and shots were fired. Like...if my day was a sweater it would be blah coloured.

I spent 4 hours at work doing something, only to be told by my boss (the one who gave me the work), that actually someone else already did it, so I guess the work didn't need to be done after all. I find out my aunt and uncle asked my brother to move out (he's living with them in Michigan while he goes to college) by the end of the term because their mother-in-law will be moving in. Only they haven't actually asked her to move in yet or anything. Then I go grocery shopping and forget half of the things I went to get, including dinner. I go to Music World and try to get Star Trek DVD's for my dad's birthday, and they try to convince me that they're worth $150, even though amazon sells them for $68. Then I come home and call my parents because last week my car's transmission died, and I was trying to see if they had any info on how much it would cost to get repaired (we're expecting it to be in the $1500 range). No news yet though, which means at least one more day of waiting and being mopey

It was sort of like the entire universe stood up and proclaimed "IT IS MONDAY. SEE, MONDAY'S ACTUALLY CAN BE WORSE THAN NORMAL DAYS."

*phew*

Alright, I needed to get that out. I'm just glad manda was there (via msn and microphone's to make me feel better).

At least my weekend was good (except the car info and me having a cold). Just sort of generally "hung out" at amanda's place in sauga, watching Wonder Boys (fantastic movie) and playing Chibi-Robo on the Game Cube. I want a 4-inch robot to pick up my trash. Also, trampolining on Friday with Manda, Gee, BC, Jenilee, and some girl whose name I never caught. I'm going to learn to do a front flip next time...I can feel it.

Funniest thing heard today: "I AM ZANTA, AND I HAVE BEEN IN CHARACTER FOR ONE WHOLE YEAR! YEAH YEAH YEAH! EVERYONE LOOK TO YOUR LEFT AND RIGHT AND SAY HELLO! WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, NO ONE DID IT! YEAH YEAH YEAH! HEY PRINCESS! YEAH YEAH YEAH!" -Zanta

**edit**

haha, Amanda just sent me this. Awesome!

Psalms

I never know how to begin the great journey known as writing. To shorten a long and trivial story, the bus driver reined in his monstrous metallic steed at a green light and waited for me to embark while I ran down the street screaming obscenities.

I didn't freeze to death in the arctic wastes, and I have that man to thank. The people are all really friendly, which is definately a plus. It's nice to work closely with full time employees and actually feel like one of their peers and not "that co-op student guy".

It's also nice to get my hands dirty with HTML and Content Management software. I know most of the people who read this site have done waaaaay more with HTML than I have, but maybe I'll actually be able to hold a candle to everyone else's HTML prowess someday.

I've spent the last two days getting accustomed with a program called RedDot and using it to make a simple website that displays news articles and some other stuff (eventually). The plan is that I'll move onto trying to make Norbord's new webpage compliant with all the versions of all the internet browsers. If you try viewing it using Netscape 6.1 for example, the menu near the top goes all wonky. It has the potential for being interesting AND for being really shitty. I've got my fingers crossed for interesting.

It's also struck me how odd riding the subway is. It's sort of like riding a giant smelly death train every day. Not exactly what I'd call starting off the morning on the right foot.

I've taken some pictures, so I'll try to get those posted next week sometime. Hopefully.

Stuck in the middle with you

Sometime, I wonder about the direction our courses are pointing us in

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do, it blows away your whole leg. Said good bye to Sean, Jarrett, and Gee on Friday. In a lot of ways, those guys have been crucial to keeping me sane over the last two and a half years and I really appreciate it. I won't be seeing S and J for quite a while, but I'm going to try to make a point of going down to Waterloo to hang out with Gee a couple of times next term. Gamecube parties? Yes please.

I'm so incredibly lucky to have an amazing girlfriend like Amanda. I think the pressures of co-op might have cracked me by now if it wasn't for her. I only hope I have the same effect on her.

I'm in the middle of finishing the second of two essays that are due tomorrow. No *major* problems so far, but it's still not a terribly fun process. What do I care if police can't use the polygraph machine as much as they'd like? I DON'T care.

Amanda's coming down to Michigan next week to meet my extended family and hang out for Christmas. It should be good, and it'll make everything seem a little more official to my aunts and uncles. They probably think I've been making up the whole girlfriend thing, and frankly I can't blame them. That sounds like something I'd do.

One of the cousins we'll be seeing I'm especially good friends with, and I believe he proposed to his girlfriend last night. I am currently taking 2:1 odds that I'll be the best man, but we'll have to wait and see.

Also, I was thinking I might steal my parent's digital camera next term and start up a seperate blog to post pictures of TO. If I do, I'll make sure to let everybody know.

I don't feel like proofreading all of that writing, I have too much proofreading ahead of me tonight as it is.

Welcome to the soldier side
There is no one here but me

Maybe I should have posted that on MySpace

I just wrote the dumbest post of ALL time.

I finished, and I was like "Wha...I'm so retarded."

If I had but just one wish, it would be that tomorrow was the 16th of December.

Persist to resist, fight back.

VG Cats

Just a quick post while I sit around in my bleary, early morning stupor. I don't know if any of you read vgcats, but the writer and artist is going to be in Waterloo right after (or maybe during for some) final exams. He'll be at Gemini Jetpack on December 17th.

The more interesting thing is that Gemini Jetpack is accepting donations for Child's Play, which is a fantastic charity run by the guys from Penny Arcade. Basically, any money donated goes towards buying toys and video games for children that are going to be in hospitals over Christmas. If anyone's thinking of donating money to a charity this Christmas, I can't think of a better candidate.

Deck the halls!

-1 pants

Well, I just finished question 3 for the 245 assignment (theoretically at least), and I felt happy enough that I snapped a quick picture. If you're in the course, this might make you tear up a little. If you're already done the course, you should be nodding in recognition. And if you haven't taken CS 245 yet? Here's a taste:

Oh the horror!

I'm a Doctor, Jim, not a bricklayer!

Yes, I know that I don't post very often during school terms. That's because everyone who reads this on a regular basis goes to school with me. I'll post more after classes are over (and if Jarrett's really nice to me I'll post while he lives in that god-forsaken Nazi hell hole).

This weekend has been a good one overall. Nothing major happened, but everything that did happen was good. On top of that, I got what I would call very good starts on my Stat 231 and CS 245 assignments. Now I just need to pair those with very good endings, and I'll be able to make it to finals relatively unscathed.

I've been trying to clean up my desktop yesterday and today, as well as override Windows XP's default style to add a nicer looking one. I have no idea if you'll be able to see this when the picture's been shrunk, but I'm happy with the result:

Now Jarrett just needs to come through with that promised full version of StyleXP.

I've already gotten two comments on the fact that I have a personal message attached to my MSN account for basically the first time ever. I'm just trying to be emo and fit in. Pretty soon I'm going to be changing it to cryptic things like "I hate how much I depend on him" and "Why doesn't anybody care?". Or maybe "My acoustic guitar sounds much better when played in the rain." Whatever.

Actually, I'm going to change it to that right now.

There we go.

I think one of the reasons I don't post often is that my posts tend to be a little all over the place and spastic. If anyone has any ideas for something I can wittily comment on, let me know.

I'm playing my song in the key of WHY DOES NOBODY CARE.

MWAHAHA

I AM TREVOR I AM SO HOT HEEHEIHEPHGPNPOW

YAY

<3

51 Days 'Til Santa

I just thought I'd post something happy tonight since November seems to be piling on the work. Gotta love a month where the work is already piling on by the second day. *sigh*

Actually, I do have to love November. Why? Because even though there's a lot of work, I'm happy. I haven't always been able to say that (I'm thinking of the second half of highschool here), but I can now. I've survived University (so far), I have great friends, a family that supports me, a good co-op job in a couple months, and a fantastic girlfriend. Our 1 1/2 year is 2 weeks from today, and that's just short of unbelievable.

The passage of time is funny. It seems like I was chatting up Amanda just yesterday. Ah, that was a good summer. CS 134, late night Psych and Econ classes, working on Lin Alg assignments at Village until 2am, and blearily (but happily) stumbling home at 3am. It was a lot of work, but looking back that was a really good term.

Here's to the rest of University living up to that.

This post has way to many comma-splices, or run-on sentences, or something.

7 miles to Banbury Cross...

Thursday Night

Thursday night was hilarious. Tow trucks were hauling wrecks away, and cars were lined up rubbernecking for half a kilometre.

It's a little weird when I think about it. Slightly different weather patterns, and that could have been my house, my car, my family.

I'm just glad I have amanda and great family and friends. Love that work.

This weekend went pretty well. It was good seeing Jarrett's place on Saturday, and we just took it easy and hung out all day. Our video game hunt was successful and somehow we managed to find the Eaton's Centre without getting lost. Will wonders never cease.

Sunday saw me and Amanda at my house babysitting my dogs, who are both insane. Nobody was seriously injured thankfully. I would have been fine with me being injured, but those dogs better not cause bodily harm to each other or Amanda.

Poodles are VICIOUS.

I finally picked a work report topic today. Assuming Gee isn't hung over and passed out in Waterloo somewhere, I should be over at his place in an hour or two. Lazy Sundays are not only good, they are also Calvin and Hobbes anthologies.

Amanda and I saw The Wedding Crashers last night, and honestly, it was hilarious. I've never heard an audience laugh that much at a movie before, it was kind of cool. If you like any of the following things:

Old School
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
American Pie
Anyone who has ever been in an SNL skit, ever
Oxygen (the molecule, not the women's television network)

you'll probably like the movie as much as I did.

I talked Jarrett into borrowing my copy of System Shock 2 the next time I see him. I think he'll enjoy that game, it used to scare the piss out of me.

Hopefully Jarrett can come visit next weekend, as planned. It's getting all too close to the beginning of another school term, and time is running out.

And lastly, it's too bad that Sean couldn't take our extra Green Day/Jimmy Eat World ticket for this Friday. It would have been cool to hang out for the evening, but at least we found another interested party.

metal rules, it absolutely rules

gunpowder, burning under my skin

www.collegehumor.com is a site that I visit semi-frequently, and this site seems like something the people who read this site would find funny.

The work term is winding down, and that damnable work report is weighing down on me already. My only consolation is that it's 3 out of 4. Surely I can write just two more reports. I can make it that long. I will make it that long.

This weekend should be low-key and fun. Spending Friday/Saturday with Amanda, which is always good. We don't have any solid plans, but it sounds like we might fool around with Mario Kart some more, even though we finally finished it on Sunday night. That game is like a drug. Amanda's also been threatening to get me started watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so that seems semi-likely too. I wouldn't say I'm a Joss Whedon fanatic, but I like what I've seen so I'll give it a shot.

Sunday afternoon I'm hanging out with Gee and probably playing Cube. Spiderman 2/Resident Evil 4 anyone? I think I'm going to make Gee play RE4 and make loud noises at random intervals. That would be fantastic.

And while I'm thinking of it, everyone go out and buy a Resident Evil 4. Honest. It's better than Half Life 2. Finally, I can post pictures of wacky pirates and robot ninja mummy nymphomaniacal evil geniuses!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

In other news, this probably slipped under everybody's radar, but there's a new web e-zine (love those buzzwords) called The Escapist that just launched last week. It's about video games, but it focuses on commentary over reviews. I find it very interesting and entertaining, so I thought I'd pass it along to whoever is interested:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/

I give it a 9, because it's got a good beat and I can dance to it.

Video Game athon-athon 2 is this weekend at Gee's place in Mississauga. Jarrett's not coming until Saturday, but he's introducing Fight Club to people who have never seen it. People who may, in fact, be girls. That's a good enough excuse to skip Dave and Buster's.

I really think the work week should be a lot shorter. I live for the weekends and usually wednesday nights. Certain people named Amanda probably know why <3
Also, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PSX) is amazing! A-Booyah.

What's happened in the last month? Let me see...

1) My brother moved to Michigan. The kid's been talking about moving back to the States for a long time, and he finally did it. Good for him. He's going to collefe down there and living with family. Collefe is like college, only there are more "F's" And by "F's", I mean sandwiches.

2) Working on grinding some rust spots out of my car today. My grandparents organized a surprise visit this weekend, so my grandpa and I have been attacking those spots with various tools (grinder, sandpaper, some sort of spinning wheel of uh....scratchyness, bondo, fibreglass, etc.) It seems to be going well.

3) I've been playing 3 different video games lately. Dark Cloud 2 (PS2), Jet Set Radio Future (Xbox), and Mario Kart: Double Dash (GC). All are pretty awesome in very japanese ways. I'd explain them more, but nobody cares.

4) Fallout kicks ass.

5) 3 sir!

6) JatHack G.0 epiphany last night. Jarrett likes it.

7) I miss Amanda. Come visitttt

8) We got a new puppy. Her name is Sassafrass, and she's a fox terrier. She weighs about 4 pounds. She bites my fingers a lot. Amanda seemed to really like the bracelet and flowers I got her. Good shopping and planning me! And I really really like my watch. Honestly, I've had it one day, and already I'm wondering how I got on without one for so long. The whirling second hand and gunmetal finish are strangely hypnotic.

-We went to a restaurant called Paradiso for dinner, they served fairly upscale medi...meddita...fuck it. Food from that place above Africa. I can't spell that. Anyways, it was really good. Crab Ravioli for myself, and Gnocchi for Amanda (pasta made from potatoes, if anyone cares).

-E3 is this week, for anyone into video games. It doesn't officially start until Wednesday, but in reality, it's been going for around 24 hours. The most impressive thing I've seen so far?

This.

If you're interested in video games, computer graphics, or technology in any way, you need to go to that site and watch the movie. It's supposedly ingame graphics, and it rivals CG movies Hollywood released just a few years ago (Final Fantasy anybody?)

-Gee, if you read this, you should have asked me to go the Xbox 360 unveiling. I would have been your best friend FOR LIFE.

-Little Caesar's $5 medium pepperoni pizza is a delicious lunch alternative.

364

A lot has happened since my last post. I'll try to fill you guys in on it all in a few short paragraphs. Don't worry, these paragraphs will be so good that you won't even miss the multiple posts they would have taken up if I had admirable character traits such as promptness.

The next paragraph is sappy. Just a warning, in case anyone wants to skip ahead.

Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of Amanda and I being an "item". Being the "it couple" of CS if you will. OK....well...Amanda was the it girlfriend of CS. I was sort of like the....it girlfriend's boyfriend. ha HA
Anyways. Tomorrow is our one year, and I can't really put into words how happy I am to say that. It seems like just yesterday that the relationship was new, and no one was really sure how long it would last. Luckily for me, it did. I love you Amanda.

OK...sappy stuff over.

Marks came back, and I'm reasonably happy with all of them. A 70% average, but considering my 56% in Combinatorics, I can't complain. I never would have guessed that my highest mark last term was going to be CS 241, but there you go.

I've been working at Castit Software for the last 3 weeks too, and it's going shockingly well. That might be because for once I'm not dealing with clueless old ladies who pour coffee on their keyboards, although I personally think it has more to do with having interesting work to do all day. I'm basically coding forms and reports that make up the user interface of a software package that my company is writing. It's been kind of exciting to see how the stuff I've been learning can be applied to coding actual software, even if it's not terribly complicated.

The bad news is that the other co-op student is a dink. He doesn't eat lunch or take breaks. He just comes in at 7:30 am, starts coding, and leaves at 3:30. I mean...they only pay him for 7 1/2 hours a day. That fucker. I thought it might be to try and look good in front of the bosses, but they might not even notice, since they're not in the office at lunchtime. My conclusion? He's an alien.

On the CD front, I bought Sublime's self-titled album yesterday for ten bucks, and it was worth every penny. Sublime has a really laid back sound that reminds me of summer, so it'll probably have a nice spot in my player for the next little while. Also, System of a Down - Mesmerize comes out on Tuesday. Oh, and I'm going to see Green Day and Jimmy Eat World at Molson Park with Amanda, Justin, Kosta, and some other people I don't know in August. I love both of those bands, and it should be a good show.

Finished Psychonauts for Xbox, it was a really great game. If you like an odd sense of humour, just go out and play this game right now. You'll love it, I *promise*.
Now I'm playing Shadow Hearts: Covenant for PS2. It's incredibly Japanese, so basically, you'll either love it or hate it. Example? One of the bosses is a giant pink cat. When the main character sees it, he says:

"That is one giant pussy."

I can't decide if it's poor translation or an actual joke, which I think makes it funnier.

Alright, I've rambled for long enough. Hopefully see some of you this weekend since it's a long one.

1 year tomorrow <3

...

I saw a kid this morning that reminded me of a chipmunk.

<s>CS 251</s> <s>SOC 227</s> <s>MATH 239</s> <s>CS 241</s> STAT 230

Examination Period

Criminology's behind me now too. Overall, could have been better, could have been worse. There was only one question I felt was "unfair". 10 marks out of 70, and I probably got none of them, but hey.

I can't be upset anyways, only 4 left! I'll be 21 2 days later, which is also fairly cool.

I was thinking about it a little while ago, and I think this year is already a better year for video games than last year was. I mean, Doom 3 wasn't bad, Half-Life 2 was good. Halo 2 was...uh...well, I only played 3 levels. They weren't bad though. The point is, the year was full of sequels to first-person shooters. This year, what do we have?

Mercenaries - A game by Lucasarts that is both a) Not an adventure game and b) Good. I know, it's shocking. Think Grand Theft Auto meets Ghost Recon and you'll be on the right track.

Jade Empire - An action RPG made by Bioware, those wacky guys who brought you Baldur's Gate and Knights of the Old Republic. Gee'll be happy to hear the combat isn't turn based or frequently paused, and it's getting pretty enthusiastic reviews, so it's definately worth picking up.

Psychonauts - Lucasarts adventure game mixed with Mario 64, made by the guy behind Grim Fandango and full Throttle, voiced by INVADER ZIM.

Out in 6 days. I think I'm in heaven.

The Legend of Zelda - Holy shit.

Final Fantasy XII - Might be one that people who don't normally like FF games get into, seeing as it's real time combat. Hopefully the main character isn't a wuss this year.

So yeah....no FPS sequels there.

Time to study.

<s>CS 251</s> SOC 227 MATH 239 CS 241 STAT 230

A revised Pizza Hut story, because somebody believed the other one

So Jarrett, Amanda and I were at Pizza Hut, and we wanted to get some food. Jarrett, Amanda and I went to Pizza Hut tonight for dinner and Jarrett decided he was so hungry that he was going to order a family-sized Chicken Fettucini Alfredo and eat all of it, along with the family-sized order of cheesy garlic bread. Time passed, and the waitress brought out a small bucket of the noodles and several loaves of garlic bread. Unphased, Jarrett dug in. He ate about 3 noodles. I laughed. Amanda laughed. The waitress came, I told he she could laugh at him too, and she did. Then she started pelting him with garlic bread, and when she bounced one off of his forehead she laughed so hard she doubled over and smacked her head on the table. An ambulance was called and paramedics came.

They laughed at him too.

And now Jarrett has a pound of Chicken Fettucini Alfredo in his fridge.

Ice 9

Here it is. The long awaited list. It's going to be much less impressive than everyone has been expecting, I'm sure. And by everyone, I mean Amanda, since I'm sure no one else has been waiting for it.

Drumroll please.....

<rimshot>*rimshot*

No, DRUMROLL!

<rimshot>*rimshot*

In no particular order, here are some things I'd like to do before I die.

1) Spend the rest of my life with someone I love ~ This one seems to be on track

2) Graduate from UW Computer Science ~ This one seems kind of stupid, but it's on the list. I think I can safely say that up until University started, I was never really challenged by anything academically, save Grade 11 French.

Basically, this is the hardest thing I've ever done.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to the day that I get to proudly say to everyone "Hi! I have a degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo!" And then everyone says "Shut up, we're tired of hearing you say that. You're not special." And then I cry.

3) Write a story / book ~ I'm pretty sure that at least part of me is an art major stuck with the mind of a CS major. Don't get me wrong, I love programming (well...90% of the time. The other 10% of the time, programming and I have swearing matches, monkeys are thrown, etc. etc.), but the idea of sitting down and writing a novel sounds appealing, at least in my head. I know that in reality, I would probably write a novel for a day or two, and then wander off , get distracted by a car, chase the car down the street and all of a sudden look around and realize I don't know where I am anymore. It's like Homeward Bound.

Oh, and part of me (wait for it, this is the shocker(not like that)) would really like to write something meaningful and profound. I love crazy Douglas Adams-esque humour, but I also would want anything I wrote to actually maybe affect one or two people. Possibly. I think if you were looking for an author I'd probably look to as a role model (theoretically of course), I'd point you towards Kurt Vonnegut. He's an ugly son of a bitch, but I like his writing.

4) Just walk for a long time in no particular direction ~ I'm not sure why, but I'm filled with what the poets call "wanderlust". If you don't know what that is, think Jack Kerouac. If you don't know who that is, uh...google it. I won't link it. Do some work. Exercise those fingers! Not too much though...wouldn't want to mess up the keyboard. *cough*

For some reason, the idea of just walking in no direction has appealed to me for as long as I can remember, especially if the walk takes places on a warm summer evening. Now I just need God to string together a bunch of summer evenings in a row, maybe 10. Then I'd be golden.

On a side note, one of the only good memories I have from the dreaded "Summer of Angie" is taking a long walk in the country on a summer evening with nobody but their farm dog, Ben. We walked a looong way before turning around. While out, we met several other dogs who were inquisitive yet friendly, had time for thinking, tired outselves out, and got to watch the sun set.

5) Just drive for a long time in no particular direction ~ See 3, but add some friends and various tourist attractions. Shake well.

6) See the Earth from orbit ~ OK, so this one is the least likely. But hey, by the time I'm old, maybe entering the Earth's orbit would be old news. Maybe EVERYBODY will be doing it by then. The kids will have to poke and prod my old bones up there and I'll be yelling and waving my cane and losing my dentures and pooping my old man diaper. It'll be great. The seeing the Earth thing, not the pooping my diaper thing.

That's it. That's all I got. Actually, there's probably more, but I can't think right now. I'll add to it if I come up with anything though.

<everyone></everyone></rimshot></rimshot>

Chat logs and other random 2:16 am shit

Due to popular demand, here's that chat log from the other night. Hopefully for phase 2, I can convince this guy I'm an escaped convict or a space alien or something.

And finally, I've been thinking of a list of stuff I want to do before I shuffle off this mortal coil. maybe I'll post it sometime.

Rankings in 3 1/2 hours.

Being unemployed has some great benefits

Like living in a cardboard box. I've been working for most of the day since Amanda is in Waterloo (poop.)

Part 1 went well, so my hopes are high for part 2. Right.....yes.

In other news, 4 job interviews this week. They went from really good interviews for desirable jobs (Dofasco), to really awful interviews (Arius).

Altogether, 5 interviews, and 3 of the jobs I actually want. Not bad. Definately up from last term, when I had 3 interviews and didn't really want to get any of them.

oh man, I need someone here to high five me. Excellent!

School is insane, but I won't go into HOW insane, since most of the people who read this are in some of my classes. You all know how insane it is. Think.....if someone gave a monkey a trout and started smacking the monkey lightly and shouting "More generating functions! More scanners!"

I have a lot of time for reflection on my drives to and from school.

I've come to the conclusion that I want to write something before I die. A story. I'm not sure what. Jarrett once described Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy as reading like something I had written, and a very large part of me would be thrilled with writing something that incredibly, perversely insane.

And a very small part of me would rather write something serious. Now I just need to practice thinking seriously, and I'll be set.

And he drags his sorry ass over the finish line...sort of

Well, it's official. Yes!

I talked with my friend Alex from home tonight too, I'm going to try to visit her on a Friday night sometime (and bring Amanda if she wants to come). Not this Friday night though, since the Settlers/Gamecubeathon is being planned...hope that goes, could be fun.

or WILL be fun.

Yes.

Going to work on Unix assignments with Jarrett and Amanda tomorrow too. I hate Unix so far, it's ass backwards. Who knows though, someday I'll probably hunker over my computer every night blissfully writing little worthless programs on my Unix box. I don't think it shows though.

Honestly....every day at work has been getting a little longer it seems like. Santa seems to be playing with the passage of time again.

I talked with Ryan for quite a while via MSN tonight too. It was good talking to him.

It's spooky how me not being around seems to make me get along with all of my family better. I'm not sure what causes that....but it can't be me. I wish there was some way I could paste a picture of me looking innocent right here -->

I was thinking about my Grandpa on the way home from work. The one who died about a year ago. I think I'm always going to be thinking about him at Christmastime now. The last time I saw him alive the entire family was crowded around his bed singing Christmas carols, and he had this smile on his face. He couldn't talk any more, but he could still smile. Everyone tried to put a brave face on for him, we didn't really think he'd be around for much longer. And he wasn't.

I dunno....but that's what Christmas is about, to me. That smile.

The other stuff is good too, but I'd trade all of my presents in this year just to have him back for a while.

Merry Christmas Grandpa

I like it when other people wear santa suits

The title is ever so true.

It was snowing here. Pretty much all day. Really light, fluffy, and slow. Exactly how it should snow on Christmas. Christmas and every weekday for those of you in highschool.

I miss PA days. I think work needs more of them. I think everything needs more PA days.

I've been noticing with my blog that I very rarely have anything interesting to write about because it always seems to centre around me at work.

"Work sucks."

"I want to go home."

"So and so<insert> <insert>looks like a monkey, but not in a good way"

"Who's so and so?"

"I don't know."

For example, our resident problem user somehow deleted some important database files at 4:15 this afternoon, asked us to fix it. So we did, and then I went to find her...and she had left and gone home.

Who doesn't stay around until their problem is fixed.

It...was....4.....30. Who leaves for home at 4:30 when there's a major network problem?

Apparently her.

And here I go again. My original point was that no one want to listen to me complain about my job or school. And so....I want my blog to have a theme. Be it video games, computer science, superheroes and the ladies that love them. I dunno. But a theme it needs.

Any input would be appreciated, whether it be from top half (love you) or somebody else.

This will require thought.

Woe to the holder of the SKUs

Today's been a not too bad day at work, except for nothing quiiiiite going right. Not bad though. I've decided to try to be more cheerful at work. It's actually working so far. I've been saying Hello and smiling twice as much as I ever was before....possibly more. Possibly like....one million times more cheerful. Think the Joker from Batman, only without the psychotic look and clown makeup. Or purple suit. I hope. But otherwise, just like that.

I'm a little worried about the old ladies that live in the gift shop upstairs. I've brought a debit terminal into their home, and it's a strange and mysterious contraption. They've got printed instructions, but I dunno. Out of the two I gave instruction too, the one old lady was not too bad, and the other one was ok too. The second one though, seemed kind of stoned. You know those old ladies that live in the cavernous walls of gift shops. Always with the drugs. Bad old ladies! Bad!

I hear Jarrett (who I may, someday, tell about this blog) very nearly got lucky the other night. Way to be man, way to be. I'm sure if Gee would have given you some advice instead of laughing the entire time, you would have "a-sealed, the deeeee-ul" as Strong bad would say.

*Seals your deal*

Amanda just sent me an awesome little story about a thugging frog who accused her of stealing his lilypads with her mind powers. I want mind powers too. I want to be like Luke Skywalker, only less whiny and not incestuous, or like Yoda, only greener.

I can't wait for 5

Heart Attack'd!

I realized while I was eating lunch today that the amount of salt in my food, if extracted, could give an entire tribe of pygmies heart disease. Pygmies ARE small, but that's still a lot of salt. In a strangely out-of-character reaction I felt like I needed to eat something healthy. Of course I had nothing, so I just busied myself with pretending I was a psychotic ninja who had been set loose in Gateway Ticketing's HQ. I don't think anyone but Amanda will appreciate how much I want to be an Anti-Gateway Ninja. That would rock hard. Not like that.

It's tough to update this blog when my boss has decided that he's now going to do most of his work in the same room as me and randomly spin his chair around to face my monitor every time I'm tempted to do non-work.

In other work-related news, I have to be here at 7am tomorrow. I just have to keep telling myself it's to guarantee that I get Christmas Eve off.

If I was the King of the Universe, everyone would have December 24th - December 26th off. Working then is worse than working on Thanksgiving.

I'd also have ninjas. Pygmy ninjas.

Things with Amanda are still going uber-well :D

That last line wasn't really "work related" per se, but I wanted to say it. So yes. I did. Take that.

The salt is setting up a garrison in my stomach.

-----------------------------------------

EDIT at 2:33 pm

I noticed that my above post seems to imply that Amanda is in some way related to Pygmy Ninjas. She isn't as far as she's told me. That'd be pretty cool though.

YAYAYAY!

I think I'm having a nervous breakdown. Ah well, c'est la vie.

It's somehow poetic that (I'm assuming) my fee bill came on the same day that I worked a twelve hour shift at work. How is it poetic?

Forsooth, across the many-planed spectral ocean
there soared
a fee bill of such gigantic and weighty purpose
that not one of the gallant sailing men could perceive
a loophole

And alas, to their starboard side
there came
a hulking twelve hour workday
and it did resemble in many ways the monkey
that most cheerful and jovial animal
And they fed it a banana

That's how.

I need a nap,

-Trevor

Oh ho ho

My brain aches

Alright, it's official. This Friday is going to be national write-a-post-that-makes-no-sense day. And by national, I mean I'm going to do it and then pretend that everyone else forgot. Oh the fun!

I tried posting that 200 things about me list from manda's site, but the post didn't work and I lost 40 minutes of writing (see yesterday's post for details). I'm not sure if I'm going to post it again or not, since that would involve a lot of highlighting and bolding. I probably will, I'm just not sure when.

Now I'm addicted to two video games, I caught an online one yesterday called notpron. Holy cripes that is one devious puzzle. And I keep getting manda addicted to the same stuff I am. I'm like some sort of virtual crack dealer. Hooray!

And lastly, I was reading something about U2 today. Ah, nevermind, I don't feel like arguing.

It is so loud in here (8)

-Trevor

The English language doesn't possess the words...

to describe how pissed off at my computer I am.

-Trevor

Oh Nintendo, you're so crafty.

Let me just talk about Animal Crossing for a second. It's a Gamecube game from Japan that looks outdated and kiddy. There's no story and there's no point. And it's hella fun. Now I just need to find other little deformed baby people to move into my town so I can teach the computer to call them "fart faces".

That's just me though, I happen to be a sucker for games from Japan that aren't quite mainstream (Animal Crossing, Jet Grind Radio, etc.) I know they aren't for everyone, which is fine.

Today has been....I dunno. I guess average would be a good word. It's just been moving along at a medium pace. And all the Adam Sandler stand-up fans laughed. 4 1/2 more hours until sweet sweet freedom and release in the form of the weekend with Amanda. Hurry up.

I've also been realizing lately that co-op has taught me some really valuable things.

1) I hate doing dishes (ok...I already knew this one)
2) I can eat noodles all week and it doesn't make me sick
3) Work isn't as stressful as school, your parents were wrong kids
4) I don't want to work in this specific branch of computer science for the next 40 years

Yeah...that about covers it. Oh, and I learned that to access a drive on a network computer that isn't shared, you can type 'c$' in the command line (or d$ or e$, you get the idea). Fascinating stuff.

Well, lunch is over now, so I guess I should get cracking on something work related now.

Oh, and a little comic I made can be seen over at http://www.livejournal.com/~dropsofsilver

Go!

-Trevor

Happy Thanksgiving

The only thing I love more than coming into work is coming into work and being barraged with problems you weren't expecting. If Elevator Three's computer stops working one more time, I'm going to go Hulk and start smashing things. And my pants are going to stay conveniently unripped just like the Hulk.

No green though.

I used to hate green when I was a kid. Well...wearing green. I'm not sure why. I would refuse to wear green shirts. All the other colours were fine, save green. Who knows, maybe i was stalked as a child by a green-sweater wearing ghost. Or maybe my mom dropped me while wearing a green shirt. Or maybe I'm just psychotic.

I need to link amanda's site somewhere in this oh-so-pretty template sometime, but until then: http://www.livejournal.com/~dropsofsilver

And finally, in reference to my title...Happy Thanksgiving America. You guys really do have the better Thanksgiving. I'm going to look into convincing Canada to make theirs a four day holiday too. In the meantime, I'll just dream of turkey and pumpkin pie while I eat noodles for lunch.

Good luck in your meeting manda, love you

-Trevor

The old man followed me around the shop in an ominous manner...

Ok, first off, I was going to introduce Eekers the sad sock monkey today, but apparently blogger doesn't host images. So until I can figure that out....back to doing your crazy monkey deeds.

Ah, today is full of suck. An old man at the computer repair store tried to "keep me busy" while I was waiting for the repair by getting me to take a look at another broken computer.

...

That wasn't meant in a dirty way. hahahaha

....anyways.

I'm not sure why people automatically assume computer science majors want to fix computers, but we don't. Especially when that's what we do at work.

While I was waiting, I did get a chance to do a lot of pacing and thinking though. It's really amazing how much of both you can get done when you have an hour of free time. Thoughts of Amanda (she was the most by far ;) ), my family, friends, school, video games, work, and other random shit rushed through my brain like a turtle on crack cocaine. I guess that's sort of fast. Yeah.

They had a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Calendar up there too. My first thought when I looked at it was "Why is laying in the sand sexy? Sand gets in everywhere. That's not sexy at all." hahaha

Well...it's true. Oh nefarious sand, you've not bested me yet.

ok, I need to write an email to you-know-who and get to work (might be awhile on the email :S)

-Trevor

Spew forth your bitter black urine!

I'm kind of enamored with blogger so far. No ads to speak of, and it seems to work on everyone's computer, unlike some free web space providers...*cough*Angelfire*cough*

I was just browsing through some of the other blogs on here. What can I say, I don't seem like the typical blogger user. Or maybe I just looked at a bad batch. Generally speaking, everyone else who uses this service is

a)A teenage girl
b)A troubled teenage girl
c)An Everquest fanatic
d)From New Zealand

Or some combination. I'm not any of those, although Lord knows we could use more New Zealanders. I love those little hobbits.

A little about me? I'm a 20 year old computer science major who's too lazy and poor to host his own website. I have a fantastic girlfriend named Amanda who also has her own blog and website, which I will link just as soon as I muster up the courage to add the hypertext.

Hm. I was trying to think of a clever way to work in the phrase "It's like I'm kicking the shit out of a tiny badger statue", but it really just doesn't fit.

Someone yesterday told me Half-Life 2 was "orgasmic". That didn't make me more eager to play. Nope...not at all.

Hopefully future posts won't be as fractured as this.

The first of many?

Well, here it is. I finally caved in and started using a ready made blog.

And now I have to run.

OH BOY WORK EMERGENCIES! HOORAY!

---------------------------------------

Ah, I do love a good work emergency, even small and unimportant ones.

To all my adoring fans....I'll write a real post sometime tonight. And possibly change the look of Buttery Justice. I had no idea Buttery Justice could be so fruity. Creamy, yes. Fruity, no.
